In Bulgaria, the standard payroll cycle typically occurs on a monthly basis, with payments being issued on the final working day of the month.

Overtime compensation in excess of the standard 40-hour workweek is governed by employment contracts or collective agreements. Generally, overtime is subject to maximum limits, which include 3 hours per day (spread across two consecutive days), 6 hours per week, 30 hours per month, and 150 hours per year.
Overtime hours are remunerated at a rate of 150% of the standard hourly wage for regular workdays, 175% for weekend overtime, and 200% for overtime worked on public holidays.
In Bulgaria, the employment contract stipulates a minimum of 20 days of paid leave per year, which becomes applicable after completing four months of employment.
During sickness, the initial three days are compensated by the employer at a rate of 70% of the standard salary. Starting from the fourth day of illness, the responsibility for payment shifts to The National Social Security Fund, covering 80% of the regular salary rate or 90% for work-related sick leave or injury, provided the employee has completed a minimum of six months of service or Social Security contributions. All employees have the right to request up to 18 months of paid sick leave.
Employees are required to furnish a medical certificate within 48 hours of the onset of sickness.
Public and Provincial Holidays
In Bulgaria, the legally mandated minimum notice period is 30 days, but it is customary for it to be extended to 90 days in practice.
13th Month Bonus
The law does not include any provisions regarding the payment of 13th salaries.
