About the Project

Our client is looking for a Senior Microsoft SQL Server DBA Engineer to join its production team and support complex, business-critical database environments running on AWS. This is not a traditional DBA role focused only on database maintenance. We are looking for someone who combines strong Microsoft SQL Server expertise with a broader understanding of cloud infrastructure, system administration and modern technologies. The role is approximately 70% Microsoft SQL Server DBA responsibilities and 30% infrastructure, AWS and broader technology-related responsibilities. You will work closely with DevOps, Development, QA and Production teams and take ownership of the stability, performance and evolution of the database environment.

Must Have

5+ years of hands-on experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Infrastructure DBA or Production DBA
Strong experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server in production environments
Hands-on experience with SQL Server clustering and high availability
Experience with Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances or Windows Server Failover Clustering
Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning and optimization skills
Experience with backup, restore, recovery and disaster recovery
Experience with SQL Server installation, configuration, patching and upgrades
At least 1-2 years of hands-on AWS experience
Good understanding of server and system administration
Strong ownership, accountability and proactive mindset
Ability to work independently and identify improvements without constant direction
Good English communication skills

Nice to Have

PostgreSQL experience
Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, Couchbase or other NoSQL technologies
Experience with Kubernetes or containerized environments
Database migration and data integration experience
Experience with multi-tenant database environments
Exposure to AI tools for troubleshooting, research or automation
Experience in SaaS or high-load production environments

Scope of work:

Own the uptime, stability, availability and performance of production database environments
Administer Microsoft SQL Server in clustered and high-availability environments
Troubleshoot and resolve complex database and infrastructure issues
Monitor database performance and implement optimization improvements
Manage SQL Server installations, upgrades, patching and server-level maintenance
Support backup, recovery, disaster recovery and access control processes
Perform infrastructure-level activities in AWS
Support database upgrades and migration projects
Work closely with DevOps, Development, QA and Production teams
Proactively identify risks, improvements and new technical initiatives
Participate in occasional activities outside regular working hours, such as planned upgrades or production incidents
