The power of 10 minutes: Tips and routines from our non-stop LinkedIn learners

What is LinkedIn Learning?

It’s a learning platform with hundreds of expert-led courses from around the world.

You choose your career goal, and the platform builds a personal learning path to help you get there.

Each course usually lasts 3–10 hours, but the content is cut into short, easy-to-watch videos (5–10 minutes each). That means you can fit learning into your day, even if you only have 15 minutes to spare.

You’ll find two main formats:

  • Courses led by a single instructor
  • Learning Paths that combine videos from different experts to show multiple points of view

Compared to other platforms, LinkedIn Learning stands out for the quality and structure of its content. It’s a space for learning that is efficient, practical, and easy to fit into your routine.

At ALLSTARSIT, our teammates can join the LinkedIn Learning program to build new skills and keep growing.

Some of them are true learning champions. They set aside time each week to explore new topics and stay ahead. We asked three of them what keeps them motivated and what advice they have for others.

But first - here’s a quick look at how LinkedIn Learning works.

Tips and routines from our non-stop LinkedIn learners
“These days, you have to keep moving just to stay in the same place. And if you want to grow, you need to make extra effort.”

Learning habits and motivation

Dmytro sees learning as a way to replace passive habits with meaningful action. “Instead of TikTok or Instagram, I scroll LinkedIn Learning. It’s like switching from Coca Cola sugar to Coca Cola zero.”

Dmytro prefers Learning Paths because the variety of speakers keeps him engaged and gives a different perspective of the same point.

He believes curiosity is the strongest motivator and if you want to go somewhere new, you have to try new things. Even just a few minutes a day can make a difference.

Preferred time for studying

Dmytro studies whenever he has a free moment – during his metro rides, while cooking, or doing things around the house. That’s how he manages to reach around 10 hours of learning each month.

When it comes to soft skills, he treats courses like podcasts and listens to them on the go. For more complex topics, he prefers to study in the evening with full attention.

Tips

  • To start, try to replace one bad habit with LinkedIn Learning.
  • Don’t judge a course by its cover. Read the description and check the agenda before you begin.
  • Don’t follow trends - learn what feels right for you.

Preferred topics

  • Soft skills (emotional intelligence, negotiation)
  • Professional topics like automation, AI, and M&A deals.

He sometimes dives into topics like marketing or HR - not because he needs them directly, but to better understand the people he works with and speak their language when writing legal documents.

“If you understand what skills a course gives you and how they help in your job - that’s all the motivation you need”

Learning habits and motivation

Before switching to LinkedIn Learning, Oleksii tried other platforms. He finds it helpful for building a solid understanding of a topic. While it might not cover every detail, it still gives a structured overview.

He learns with a clear goal in mind. “You need to know where you’re going. If you understand what skills you’ll get and what job they can lead to - that’s enough to stay motivated.”

Preferred time for studying

Oleksii watches fully focused, sometimes on weekends, and speeds up videos to save time.

Tips

  • Technologies change fast, and it’s important to keep up at least on a basic level. Sometimes, knowing just a bit more is what gets you the job offer.
  • Love the process. Keep your goal in mind. And don’t wait for motivation - just learn what you enjoy.
  • Start practicing as you go through the course. Even building the simplest things gives you a better understanding and helps you remember the material.

Preferred topics

Oleksii sticks to job-related topics: Vue, D3, GraphQL, GreenSock, Micro Frontend Architecture, Next.js, and React security.

“The first 10% of the course always feels confusing. But if you stick with it, things start to make sense and that’s when it gets interesting”

Learning habits and motivation

For Yevhenii, learning is part of problem-solving. Whenever a new task comes up at work, he digs into the topic through documentation first and then looks for structured explanations on LinkedIn Learning.

He often explores the same topic through several different courses to see how different experts explain it. “Everyone has their own way of presenting information. Seeing different angles helps the full picture come together.”

He prefers LinkedIn Learning for its clarity and structure. For him, YouTube can help in specific cases, but LinkedIn Learning provides a system. “First, I read the documentation. Then I use LinkedIn Learning for solid, well-made content. YouTube helps for quick fixes, but LinkedIn is better for quality learning.”

Preferred time for studying

Yevhenii’s ideal pace is 40 minutes a day, but he usually fits in 2–3 hours of learning per week. He watches selected blocks from long courses rather than following them from start to finish.

He studies during working hours when possible and finds time by avoiding distractions: “I don’t use TikTok or Instagram. No TV either. I’d rather spend that time learning or with my family.”

Tips

  • Try different courses on the same topic – each instructor brings something unique.
  • Don’t drop the course too soon. Push through the first few sessions – it gets easier once the topic starts making sense.
  • Not everything has to be learned in full. Sometimes, 15 focused minutes are more valuable than hours of passive watching.

Preferred topics

Yevhenii focuses on cybersecurity certifications and core info security concepts:
CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+), CISSP (ISC2), and related content.

He chooses 60% of his courses based on current job tasks, 20% to keep his knowledge fresh, and the rest are experiments – some of which don’t stick. And that’s okay.

Want to start learning?

Whether you're building new skills or exploring something completely different, LinkedIn Learning is a good choice for a start.

Let curiosity lead the way. And remember that everyone once started with a single video.
